new poker listings ... technical stuff ... randomness

I’m probably going to be all over the place so as not to go down that route I’m going to be numbering the PokerOso happenings. Here goes.

1.) We successfully implemented SEF (search engine friendly) url’s but am in the process of removing the underscores. In the last blog post I used the example of the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City. The new url’s look like this

http://pokeroso.com/brick_and_mortar_poker/trump_taj_mahal/

I’m please with the way these are coming out but I would like to rid the url’s of the underscores.

2.) My work space is currently a mound of papers but I am working on getting things organized which never seems to happen because something new always comes about and is in the way of organization. Today we got a new listing from the Pepper Mill in Reno Nevada and they brought to light a listing field procedure that really was more technical than it should have been. Thanks to them they will have probably saved a bunch of listers a lot of grief. In the spirit of one helping another I’m telling everyone to play the Pepper Mill in Reno. You can view their listing here

http://pokeroso.com/brick_and_mortar_poker/peppermill_resort_%26_casino/

So I’m using the listing field as one very small example but the little things tend to build. With a little luck and some hard work I expect to have almost all the kinks worked out on the to do list by this coming Friday.

3.) It was either today or yesterday but we got our first user generated poker room listing outside the United States and I’m really proud of that. Check the Great Blue Heron Casino out at
http://pokeroso.com/brick_and_mortar_poker/great_blue_heron_casino/

The goal is to have 500 listings in the next 6 months with a good share coming from outside the continental United States. Poker is a world game and we haven’t forgotten that.

4.) We are still working hard on search engine optimization but it definitely can be an uphill battle at times. We would 100% appreciate anyone out there adding a PokerOso link on their site. Also think about joining us on Facebook or our Twitter accounts.

5.) We are in the process now of forming a business entity in the State of California but man do they disincentives starting said entity here. I’m only a couple of hours into my research but it’s beyond me why a small business would chose to incorporate in California. I guess when I know more I’ll have more to say on this subject.

6.) Finally if anyone out there has any questions of comments about the website we would love to hear it. Any feedback in the form of how we could make the site better would be much appreciated.

SEO, SEF, my lawyer, PokerOso Poker Room Directory view change

Okay, so the new focus right now is SEO which is search engine optimization. I’m currently working on making the url’s search engine friendly. By that I mean not a lot of gobbly gook but url’s that look like they were written by human beings. An example of a current url would be

http://pokeroso.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=95:trump-taj-mahal&catid=42:poker-rooms

Not so pretty right. In the future the url will look something like

h ttp://pokeroso.com/trump-taj-mahal

or something close to that.

Also meeting with a lawyer on Tuesday to shore up some of the Corp. issues and arrange for a new business bank account.

Should be a productive week

Oh, and also looking to switch up how the poker room reviews are actually viewed on the site which is a pretty big thing. As in my initial proposal I may add a map of the United States to the home page of PokerOso with all the casino markers as opposed to the poker room button I have now. Really not sure though so if anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

SSL and more to come.....

I wanted to drop a quick post and let everyone know that we added a 128bit SSL certificate to http://pokeroso.com/ That translates into increased protection for your information and the piece of mind that we value our users and want you to have the best experience possible on PokerOso.com

In the near future look for a bunch of new card room listings as we hope to get kicked into high gear in the next few weeks. We are hoping for at least a 100 current comprehensive card room listing by the end of the month and at least a handful of new reviews. Thanks to those of you who have contributed so far.
